Kiwigrid extends its network in Germany’s energy industry

  • Kiwigrid is a member of BDEW and FNN
  • Open platform for all energy industry market roles
  • Kiwigrid is the only manufacturer to develop a value-added smart meter gateway

Kiwigrid GmbH has recently become a member of the BDEW, as well as the Network Technology/Operation Forum within the VDE.

“Many of Germany’s leading energy companies rely on our platform, including E.ON, innogy, enviaM, Lechwerke, Stadtwerke Düsseldorf, and Stadtwerke Vattenfall. With our new partnerships, we are also actively shaping the energy transition at the committee level,” says Kiwigrid´s Managing Director Matthias Hertel.

The Federal Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW) represents more than 1,800 companies, making it the leading association for heat, electricity, and electrical grids—all key issues for Kiwigrid. Amongst other things, member companies account for around 90% of electricity sales, 95% of electricity grids, and over 60% of local and district heating sales.

Following the addition of Kiwigrid and 17 other companies, Stefan Kapferer, chairman of the BDEW Executive Board, said: “We are pleased that we were able to win over new traditional energy and water utility companies, and that companies from the fields of mobility, IT services, and housing also decided in favor of BDEW. This shows how multi-faceted the energy industry has become. The BDEW is the only association that represents this new world of energy in its entirety. This is the best way to work together to find answers to future questions of energy supply, climate protection, and mobility.”

The Network Technology/Operation Forum of the VDE plays a key role in shaping fundamental changes in electricity grids as a technology standardization body of the energy transition. Its members are companies that work in the field of electricity. Kiwigrid is one of nine member companies developing a smart meter gateway. Millions of these devices will be the central elements of the digital and decentralized energy system in the near future.
